Merton College

Visitor attractions · Oxford

Historic Oxford University college on Merton Street, open to paying visitors on most afternoons.

About Merton College

Merton College sits on cobbled Merton Street in central Oxford and is one of the University's oldest colleges. Visitors can walk through its quads, see the College Chapel and view the war memorial beneath the Fitzjames Arch.

The college opens to the public on weekday afternoons and for longer hours at weekends, with a small admission charge paid by card at the Lodge and a map brochure included. Some areas, such as the Hall and Fellows' Garden, are not open to visitors, and the college can close at short notice, so checking ahead is advised.
